Restoration
The Philip Hawkins Workshop has offered a comprehensive antique furniture restoration and cabinet making service since 1987. Our emphasis and reputation is founded on the quality and authenticity of our restoration.
We are particularly proud of our ability to preserve original surfaces. When they have been damaged we do not strip back, which so often occurs with poor restoration. We are able to match in newly restored sections either by using old patinated timber or by copying and blending with old surfaces. Our reputation for preserving and matching in exceptional patination has brought us some fascinating work. We hold a good stock of old timber breakers and use both traditional and modern techniques to achieve a high quality finish.
The Workshop has acquired a notable reputation for our particular expertise in the restoration of early oak furniture and over the years have served some of the major dealers in 16th century furniture including Alastair Sampson and Toby Jellinek.
Most of our restoration work is carried out in house. However we are fortunate to be able to draw on a team of specialist restorers and finishers where a piece requires a particular combination of skills.
We welcome all enquiries and will be happy to offer advice.
